We assisted a venture-backed computer science college alternative to make education affordable to any students applying to their program. Our work created one of the first Income Sharing Agreements (ISA) in the United States, which enables anyone to afford school regardless of economic circumstance. Unlike student loans, ISAs are only paid back if and when a graduate gets a job paying above an agreed upon starting salary.

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
New Orleans is known for it's food and music heritage and the Good Work Network is known to serve women and minority-owned businesses in Central New Orleans. What the Good Work Network needed was directions on how to bridge the city's traditions with what the organization does well. We teamed with Good Work Network to create Roux Carre, a place to incubate and launch businesses celebrating the African American, Caribbean, and Latin American influences that enrich the Big Easy. WEST OAKLAND
The mission of making it easy for 35,000 West Oakland residents to access healthy fresh and prepared food was fading. People's Community Market was running out of options and about to close down, returning money to it's 200 plus shareholders. With real estate prices rising and capital running out, People's Community Market asked us to help find a way forward. Within months, we created a strategic and financial plan, securing a $750,000 grant for working capital, a $100,000 USDA grant that doubles purchasing power of customers, and $8,000,000 in equity, loans and tax credits. With our guidance, the project has moved forward with construction in July 2018. People's Community Market is scheduled to open it's 15,000 sq ft. grocery store in January 2019. creating more than 30 new local jobs and new access to 1 million+ pounds of fresh local food per year. National media coverage about the project is found here.

Mandela MarketPlace, a community development corporation in West Oakland, Ca, was almost out of money and needed to pivot quickly. That's where we came in. In less than 3 months, we helped Mandela Marketplace develop a new financial strategy relying less on grants and more on the community that makes West Oakland food economy thrive: local producers and consumers, social enterprises, financial institutions and the government. As part of our work, we help set up a "Ladder-Up" financing program for Mandela bridging the community, raising close to $1 million for the West Oakland and small minority regional producers. Our work established a sustainable supply chain of more than 500,000 pounds/year of fresh food between regional minority farmers and West Oakland's USDA designated Food Desert.
